From Above, Everything Looks Beautiful
11 September – 31 October 2026
Almas Art Foundation is extremely excited to present the first U.K. solo exhibition by internationally acclaimed Congolese-Canadian artist Moridja Kitenge Banza.
From Above, Everything Looks Beautiful brings together unseen works from Banza's acclaimed Chiromancy series, an ongoing body of work begun in 2008 that draws parallels between cartography and the divinatory art of palmistry. Through these abstract paintings, Banza explores the enduring legacies of colonialism and the political and economic forces that continue to shape the Democratic Republic of Congo and Québec.
Suggesting imagined landscapes, river systems and scarred territories, the paintings reflect on the global mining industry and its human and environmental impact. They invite viewers to consider the lives of those who extract the minerals that fuel modern technologies, while revealing landscapes transformed by exploitation, conflict and displacement.
Combining striking abstraction with powerful social and political commentary, From Above, Everything Looks Beautiful marks a significant moment in the artist's practice and offers UK audiences their first opportunity to experience a major solo presentation of his work.
